Fun in the creek

We had a good day yesterday. In the morning we worked hard and got all out house chores done so we could play in the afternoon. I packed a picnic lunch for the girls and we went to the creek for the afternoon. They had so much fun playing in the sand and water. Jenae found what we think is a turtle egg. She is sure we need to keep it to see if it hatches. After 3 hours in the sun we called it a day and went back to the house. Both girls crashed after getting cleaned up and took nice long naps. I worked on my flower beds and did some lawn work while they slept. It was a nice balance of fun/play time and still was able to get some things done around the house. We love summer at our house. I am afraid it will be here and gone before we know it.

The simple life

We had a nice weekend. We kept busy but it was not a crazy busy just a fun busy if that make sense. Friday night we went over to Chip & Marilyn's for a bon fire. A couple of years ago we had several bon fires, but the last couple of years we have not taken the time for them. Actually I think it was Aubree's first bon fire ever. We all had a really good time. Jenae and Aubree had a blast playing in the creek. Aubree ended up stripping down and playing naked in the creek. She hates to have wet clothes on so when she got a little wet off came the clothes. The girls did not have any dry clothes to put on so Kyle ended taking them back to the house and giving them a quick bath. When they got back we made s'mores and the girls and Kyle build sand castles. After dark Chip set off fireworks. It was the perfect night for a bon fire!

Saturday it was super windy here. We spent most of the day in the house. It was warm so I did fill up the little swimming pool for Jenae and Aubree to play in. They had fun until a huge bumble bee landed on Aubree's arm. Jenae freaked out and started screaming "Aubree got stung by a bee" then Aubree stared screaming. When they both calmed down I found out the bee never did sting her thank goodness.

Sunday was another nice day. I think it was maybe 80 with a little breeze. We had church and grabbed a bite to eat before we headed home. Jenae and I headed outside right away to make the most of the beautiful day. We worked on their play house, worked in garden and planted some strawberries. Jenae was a real trooper because she wanted to go back to the creek to play. I told her once we got all of our "work" done we could go. Kyle had stayed in the house to try to get Bree down for a nap, but was not successful. We headed out to the creek and played for a couple of hours. It was a lot of fun. The creek banks are really sandy. They were tired out when we got back to the house. It took Aubree all but 2 minutes to fall asleep once back to the house.

Busy Times

It seems as the weather is getting nicer we are getting more busy. Jenae is getting really excited for school to be out. Today is her last day.

Last weekend the girls and I went to my parents house for the weekend. Kyle headed off to Tennessee for a rodeo. He had a little mishap in the steer wrestling and got a little banged up. He came down off of Rambo and hurt his hip. It appears to be just a bad bruise but he is pretty sore. Saturday Jenae, Aubree and I made a quick run to Norfolk to get a few things. My parents were helping with the Madison High School Rodeo so we stopped by there on our way back to my parents house. The plan was to brand the calves and work the cows on Sunday. They were calling for rain all day on Sunday so last minute we ended up getting the cattle moved home and branded and worked the calves on Saturday evening. Kyle was supposed to go a jackpot on Sunday in Iowa on his way home from Tennessee but decided with a bum hip that would not be a good idea. He ended up coming to my parents house on his way home on Saturday night and stayed to help on Sunday. We got up Sunday and worked the cows then moved them to pasture. Mom made a good dinner for all of us and then we went out to the arena to play for awhile. My parents got a hot heels awhile back. I had never roped it before, but it was a lot of fun. I kind of surprised myself that I still knew how to rope. I actually roped the calves during the branding as well. It was a lot of fun. I did not realize how much I miss that.

Monday Jenae had her PE fun day. It was super cute to watch a bunch of kindergartners do the events. We were proud of Jenae she did a good job and had a lot of fun. They had a reading program in the morning to recognize how much reading the kids had done. Jenae read or had read to her 497 books this year. She loves to read!

Tuesday Jenae helped me get my garden in. We planted tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, squash, corn, pumpkin, watermelon, onions and green beans. I also bought some strawberry plants I still need to get planted. I am as bad as a little kid. I go out every night expecting to see the seeds sprouting and the plants growing. Hopefully the warm weather they are calling for this weekend will get things going.

We are looking forward to a nice quiet weekend!

Happy Belated Mother's Day!

I would like to wish all you mothers out there a very happy belated Mother's Day! There is something so special about being a mom. I don't think I truly ever appreciated my own Mom until I was a mom myself. I have really great memories of growing up. My Mom always put her kids needs above her own. I am very thankful for the past 31 years my Mom has been my Mom :-) I feel bad I did not get to see her on Mother's Day, but hopefully I can make it to see her next weekend.

I had a great weekend with my girls. Kyle was gone all weekend, so it was just us girls home. It was a very laid back relaxing weekend. Saturday we had Chip, Marilyn, Ben, Hope and Trey over for dinner to treat Marilyn for Mother's Day. I made lasagna and Hope brought the rest of the meal. Marilyn does so much for us through out the year that it was fun to be able to do something for her. After we ate we went out to pick asparagus. Jenae is an asparagus hunting fool! She loves to pick it and she loves to eat it. She is not real big on eating vegetables, but asparagus is something she loves!! That evening the girls and I went outside and did some running around and tossed the ball around. It was not the nicest weather this weekend, but Saturday evening it was not bad outside.

Sunday I had nursery duty at church. We grabbed a bite to eat in O'Neill and headed home. We spent the day in the house. We watched a movie and baked some cookies. I really enjoyed the day with my girls! They are so much fun to be around. It was the perfect Mother's Day!

Branding

Yesterday we branded our calves. It is always a big day. All in all it went well. There were a couple little mishaps. 1 rider got bucked off and we had a couple calves run off the wrong way when they went to move them to the pasture. I am sure the help is a little sore today from wrestling with the calves. It was a nice sunny day unfortunately a little bit more windy than we wanted it to be.

It was nice of everyone that helped to give up their day. Even thought it is a lot of work, it is still fun time. (I say that because I am not the one wrestling the calves)

I was in charge of the meal so I did not spend much time out at the branding. They branded at Chips place and ate at our place.

Jenae missed the branding because she had her field trip at school yesterday. They went to a kids fair, to the park and to Dairy Queen. It sounds like she had a lot of fun. She lost her second tooth last night.

Weekend

We had a great weekend. On Friday night I told the girls when they woke up in the morning their Daddy would be home. I should have been more clear with Jenae. She woke up at 4:30 in the morning and thought Kyle should have been home. He was coming from Oklahoma and I did not expect him home until 6:00 am, and that was only if he drove straight through. She was so exited of the thought of him coming home she just milled around the house until 6:00. The sun was coming up and I told her if she wanted to call Kyle to see where he was she could. He was just about a mile away when she called. The girls were running, jumping, dancing, screaming, & smiling saying "DADDY IS COMING HOME" It was fun to see them so happy. It had been a long 4 weeks for them! Kyle was gone 3 days short of being gone for 4 full weeks.

Saturday we stayed close to home. I worked on getting Kyle's laundry all done up from being gone. That was a project in itself!!! That evening we went to a wedding in Chambers. Our friends Nick and Katie got married. It was a very nice wedding and was fun to visit with the Chambers crowd.

Sunday we went to Church. While Jenae was at Sunday School we took Aubree to the park. That afternoon we went to help Chip sort off some of the cows that he did not want to bring home for the branding. Aubree wanted to go a long to help on Cinnamon. I ponied Cinnamon on my horse. We could not go real fast. Cinnamon's trot is about as fast as a horses walk. Aubree and my job was to watch the gate while Kyle, Chip & Jenae sorted the cows off. Aubree did good. It was her first real cattle job she got to ride Cinnamon on. Usually she rides with me on my horse. She was a good trooper and seemed to have fun.

We are branding tomorrow so it should be a fun day!
